What is periodontal disease? Periodontal disease is a chronic infection of the gums and bones holding your teeth in place. If left untreated, the gums and bones holding your teeth in place can be damaged, leading to possible tooth loss Periodontal disease is very common and affects an estimated 50 million people in the United StatesRecent studies suggest a link between periodontal disease and other health complication including diabetes and hear diseaseThe most common treatment-emergent adverse events were headache (9.0%), infection (7.6%), flu syndrome (5.0%), and pain (4.3%). These occurred at a similar rate to SRP and SRP + placebo. ARESTIN™ (minocycline hydrochloride) contains minocycline, tetracycline derivative, and therefore should not be used in children and in pregnant or nursing women. The use of drugs of the tetracycline class during tooth development may cause permanent discoloration of the teeth. How is periodontal disease treated? This office uses an effective treatment protocol for this condition that includes ARESTIN. Scaling and root planing (SRP) is a procedure that we use to remove plaque buildup and bacteria from the infected area around teethARESTIN™ is an antibiotic that we easily place in the infected gums around your teeth to treat your periodontal disease and help promote healing after SRPARESTIN™ is a small amount of powder that is administered quickly and easily. Application is comfortable, no bandages are required, and it won't leak or fall out.Because periodontal disease is a chronic disease, your gums need to be checked regularly. Our email policy - We promise never to sell, barter or rent your email address to any unauthorized party. Don't Forget to Floss! Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. Decay-causing bacteria can hide between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between teeth and under the gum line. Visit Our Office Regularly! Take good care of your smile. Remember to visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams. Mouthwash Is Important, Too! Brushing and flossing may not be enough. The ADA now recommends using an antimicrobial mouthwash to reduce plaque and prevent gingivitis.
